Here are some talking points to help you get your point across.

You want them to stop the Arbitration Amendment Bill passing through the Seanad.

Ask them if they have heard about the risks of signing Ireland up to secret investor courts. These would allow international corporations to sue Ireland over laws they think would cause a loss of potential future profits. This could include corporations suing us if the government tries to raise minimum wage, make housing affordable, or protect clean drinking water.

Because this is an agreement with Canada we would be left particularly vulnerable to Canadian corporations including mining and housing corporations.

These investor courts will make it impossible for this or future governments to legislate freely without the fear of a costly lawsuit. Even when governments have won cases in the past, the public often still have to pay up millions in expensive legal costs.

Because these secret investor courts only work one way, there is no way for the state to appeal decisions made in them. We already have laws to protect investors and businesses, if those laws are good enough for Irish businesses they should be good enough for international corporations.

We should be able to trust our government can make laws for the people who elect them and not be bullied by big corporations. Passing the Arbitration Amendment Bill would recklessly hand away power to corporations to decide our laws and prioritise their own profits.

This decision is too important and too far-reaching to be rushed through. Once we sign up to CETA, we can only get out of it if the entire EU decides to leave. Meaning that future generations will be bound to these unfair and lopsided corporate courts.

Please scrutinise this bill properly and say no to the Arbitration Amendment Bill.
