As a member of the public, I am writing to you about my thoughts on the Traffic-free Trial at Capel Street & Parliament Street. Please consider this my submission to your consultation.

Having more car-free space in the heart of Dublin City is imperative to Dublin being a more liveable city. Reclaiming the space for people to walk and socialise whilst not having to worry about the impact of car fumes as they drive by will significantly improve the experience of people who spend their time there.

It plays a part in our plans for climate action. A brilliant finish to Dublin City Council’s Climate Action Week just passed would be the announcement to make these streets pedestrianisation trials permanent.

As we have learned from our experiences with the pandemic, ventilation is hugely important for the good of our health. Spending more time dining outdoors has brought us up in line with many of our European counterparts for which outdoor socialising and al fresco dining is the norm.

A traffic-free Capel Street between Parnell Street and the north quays and traffic-free Parliament Street both 7 days a week will help us achieve all of these goals.
