Why is this important?

The Troubles cost thousands of lives, and tore generations of families apart. The Good Friday Agreement, which put an end to it, was hard won: it was a process which took years and involved people who had been at war with each other sitting down together to work out a way forward. There can be no return to the past, and no hard border on the island of Ireland.
