We ask you to stop the trashing of our oceans and commit to the vision of a world free of plastic pollution. This means setting ambitious goals to reduce the production and use of plastic. You will also need to ensure that plastic is made toxics-free and that recycling greatly increases. .

Why is this important?

Whales and seabirds starve because they have too many plastic parts in the stomach. Soon there will be more plastic than fish in the worlds oceans. Microplastics are ending up on our plates and in our bodies.

Plastics are huge business and the plastics industry want to grow not reduce the amount of plastic produced. Increasing amounts of plastic are being dumped into the world's oceans - 8 million tonnes per year. Plastic does not rot - it justs accumulates there for centuries.

Now there's a huge opportunity to curb the plastic flood. The EU Commission will publish its strategy against plastic waste in the autumn. They know there is a problem but plastic manufacturers are lobbying hard to stop the strategy from being effective.

We need public pressure to show the European Commission that we want them to adopt strict measures to prevent plastics and improve recycling.
