You can email your Councillors now to call on them to do all they can to to put forward a CETA-Free Zone motion for their next local council? Together, we are mounting pressure from the council chambers to the Dáil chambers before the vote there. There's a template email you can use, but if you can, personalise it. Here are some writing tips below:

I am a constituent of yours and I’m writing today to strongly express my concern and opposition to the trade deal CETA. 
 
I ask that you use your power as a local public representative to protect the environment, food quality, small businesses, for all of our sakes, by taking a stance against CETA. 
 
CETA will enable some of the world’s biggest corporations to undermine EU social, health and environmental standards. It will result in the loss of jobs in countries like Ireland and will severely affect the Irish food and agriculture sector.
 
Our national sovereignty and democracy will be undermined by CETA if allowed to proceed. Under its investor protection rules, CETA will give Canadian firms unprecedented powers to sue the Irish government when any new laws affect their profits.
 
It is unjust to give Canadian corporations a competitive advantage in their dealings with Europe. Equally, we do not want to reduce the social and environmental standards we hold dear.
 
I sincerely hope that you choose to stand up for democracy. I am hoping that you will listen to my concerns and others in our community and take a lead by putting a motion forward to the council. If enough Councils declare themselves CETA-Free Zones, we hope that will send a clear message to our national government representatives.
 
This is the motion I am suggesting that you could be put forward
 
“This Council agrees that the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement (CETA) providing additional rights to multinational corporations to sue the state outside of ordinary legal systems we currently have will undermine EU social, health and environmental standards. This Council acknowledges that many of the trade elements are already in place and does not need the addition of corporations being able to sue the Irish government through the Investor Court System (ICS) when any new laws affect their profits. This council stands against the Investor Court System (ICS) and calls this constituency a CETA-Free Zone. 
 
This Council resolves to write to the Minister for Trade, the Minister for Local government and the Taoiseach to outline this position. It further resolves to publicise the council’s concerns about CETA and to circulate this motion with other Councils as correspondence for consideration.”
